Sophia Systems announces the "Sandgate III-P" development platform with the Marvell(R) PXA310 Processor for Handheld Terminal-IP telephone development, supporting standard Operating Systems.

# Attn: Press reporters
Sophia Systems Co., Ltd., a systems manufacturer of microprocessor development systems (Katsumi Harashima, President, with Head Office in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, a subsidiary of Sophia Holdings Co. Ltd. listed on JASDAQ (ID: 6942); hereinafter referred to as "Sophia") has developed and started the sale of the "Sandgate III-P" development platform with the Marvell PXA310 Processor(624MHz) for Handheld Terminal-IP telephone capability and development.

Sophia continues its leadership role with supporting the PXA application processor made by Marvell (previously Intel), and is expanding sales of development solutions worldwide, including JTAG Emulator hardware assist, and a full line of PXA reference boards. This includes providing development assistance for embedded systems to engineers worldwide.
In the past, an ordinary platform in an embedded development environment was limited to the provisions of the Board Support Package (hereinafter referred to as "BSP") with migration of an OS into the evaluation board containing a microprocessor left up to the engineer. But, in the "Sandgate PXA Series" of product offerings starting with the PXA270 announced by Sophia in 2005, Sophia established an extended eco-environment approach, offering a very close to a final product by providing integrated services including OS migration/BSP as well as middleware of various types, and drivers for installed parts on the PXA reference boards. Under the cooperation with telecommunication software makers that are engaged in state-of-the-art development, the advent of such a new platform has achieved the combination of embedded development while telecommunication software makers expand their business into the embedded development markets, making it easier for embedded development engineers to add telecommunication functions to their final product offerings.

Sophia's previous "SandgateII VP", "Sandgate VoIP Phone" and "Sandgate W-SIM" offerings represented the 1st generation platform solutions that built this new form of product offering. The newly announced "SandgateIII-P" will be positioned as the 2nd generation of development solutions made for further powerful Handheld product development offerings.
The SandgateIII-P/PXA310 hardware can cope with the world's OS standards such as "Microsoft Windows Embedded CE 6.0", "Microsoft Windows Mobile 6", and "Linux", including the "Qtopia Phone Edition". Under the cooperation of a number of software/middleware makers and parts manufacturers.  With the use of this development platform, an engineer will be able to simultaneously develop hardware and software, which will lead to overall development time reductions.
The PXA310 Processor used is the newest processor made by Marvell and will be able to meet the latest needs for high function requirements with sufficient performance, by taking advantage of the high functionality and low power consumption with installed video acceleration.
Major applications of "Sandgate III-P" for the development/evaluation of handheld terminals or IP phones, AND also for the development/evaluation of applications software & middleware, research & development of User interface, new business model building, field verification of mobile phones & handheld terminals, and systems development & verification, as well as practical use evaluation and demonstrations for handheld terminals aimed at enterprise applications.

On-chip debugging will be possible by using this development platform of SandgateIII-P together with "EJ-Debug" PXA-JTAG made by Sophia supporting the PXA300 series of Processors from Marvell. The "WATCHPOINT" debugger running on a host PC and connected to the EJ-Debug unit is equipped with advanced functions such as high-speed downloading of various formats/modules, easy access to code symbols, source files and mathematical functions, modification/storage functions of source programs and reverse assemblers, referencing and modifying functions of the PXA built-in registers with a specialized window, and a function for directly downloading a program to flash ROM. In addition to high-level language debugging, EJ-Debug can support debugging within the various OS development environments, such as Visual Studio, WinCE/Platform Builder, etc. The EJ-Debug unit is connected with the host PC via USB and is powered by the USB Bus power.

As the leading company for embedded development assistance in Japan, Sophia is driven by state-of-the-art requirements and the most timely highest priority projects to assure high-quality product offerings for the worldwide market in the most efficient manner.
