Sophia Systems announces Sandgate WP, a development platform for WILLCOM SIM STYLE cellular phones supporting W-SIM running on Linux OS

Japan, June 26th, 2006: Sophia Systems Co., Ltd. JASDAQ (Sophia 6942), is pleased to announce the release of the Sandgate WP (Sandgate W-SIM Phone), our newest development platform for WILLCOM SIM STYLE cellular phones.

In 2005, Sophia released the Sandgate 2P (VoIP reference design platform) and the Sandgate VP (a concept model for a hybrid cellular phones). Today, making use of the technology developed in 2005, Sophia releases the Sandgate WP giving developers the standard features required for WILLCOM SIM STYLE cellular (PHS) phones. Thanks to Fujitsu Software Technologies Limited (FST), the Sandgate WP will include a Linux based SDK (software development kit) allowing developers to immediately start the development and evaluation of their applications.

When developing software applications and hardware at the same time, the combination of Sandgate WP and Sophia's EJ-Debug JTAG emulator provides a high-performance, stable development environment. The EJ-Debug JTAG emulator connects to the Sandgate WP via a plug-in debug board (the expansion bus connector is located under the battery). This expansion bus connector can also be used by developers to build their own plug-in cards in order to add various devices.

For companies interested in using the hardware design of the Sandgate WP in final product form, Sophia Systems has made alliances with several partners allowing the built in features and applications to be customized as needed for mass production. The Sandgate WP will be available on August 2006.

Sophia is a qualified and regular member of the WILLCOM CORE MODULE FORUM, joining the embedded Linux working group.
