Freescale Semiconductor and Sophia Systems work together on an embedded tools solution for developers using Windows® CE.NET with i.MX processors

Kanagawa, JAPAN, September 27th, 2004 - Sophia Systems Co., Ltd. (Headquartered in Kanagawa, CEO: Tasuku Kashihira, Capital: 1.6 billion JPY, JASDAQ: 6492), is pleased to announce its Watchpoint interface software for Microsoft's "Platform Builder" now supporting Freescale's "i.MX21 multimedia applications processor. This will enable the developers of systems based on the i.MX21 processor with Windows CE.NET installed to use Sophia's powerful emulation tools. The tools can provide a more efficient debugging process, thus decreasing the time needed for debugging.

The i.MX21 applications processor is the latest member of Freescale's i.MX family of applications processors for use in smart phones, wireless PDAs, mobile entertainment and many other wireless applications. Based on ARM® core (ARM926EJ-S™) technology, it enables robust multimedia applications with greater video and graphics capabilities, advanced power management and plug-and-play connectivity.

Developers of systems based on the i.MX21 processor can now use Watchpoint, Sophia's high-level language debugger, and the Watchpoint interface for Platform Builder (WP4MSPB), to enjoy a wide range of debugging capabilities such as program downloading to Flash ROM, program execution, break, view/modify of each memory/register, bus trace, view of emulation memory, and so on.

"Designing mobile multimedia systems can be a tricky endeavor for even the most skilled systems engineers, Mr. Fred Stotz, Global Strategic Alliances, Freescale Semiconductor, said. Developers have relied on Sophia's Watchpoint debugger for years to quickly identify issues and hasten the debugging process, Sophia's tools are known in the developer community as reliable and respected, two attributes Freescale prizes and primary reasons we are proud to have Sophia as a member of our global Design Alliance Program. ,

Tasuku Kashihira, CEO and COO of Sophia Systems says, "With cooperation of Microsoft's Platform Builder and Sophia's emulator, developers can use the Platform Builder for hardware debugging that was previously not analyzable, which enables a more efficient development with the i.MX applications processor. We are happy to be working with Freescale and are committed to providing leading debugging solutions for the i.MX processor customers."
