Overview
Sophia
Systems Sandgate 2G reference design platform supports the Intel®
PXA270 processor with the Intel® 2700G multimedia accelerator. This
handheld multimedia reference board enables you to develop the software
at the same time as the hardware is being developed, greatly reducing
the overall system development time. The Sandgate 2G reference design
includes all the peripherals necessary for the development of PDA/handheld
devices. The addition of the Intel® 2700G multimedia accelerator
makes it a perfect enabling kit for graphics intensive multimedia devices.
The Sandgate 2G's compact design is an excellent design base for the
actual system.
The
CD-ROM provides a board support package for Windows®CE 5.0 with
Linux BSP solutions available upon request. A JTAG port can be used
for high-speed downloading to Flash or a JFLASH cable is included to
download via the serial port. Also the schematic, part list, CPLD code
(source and binary) are all included so development and customization
is not a problem.

I/O
Ports
The
PXA270 Sandgate 2G Reference Design comes equipped with standard input
and output ports. In addition to these, there is a expansion slot that
easily extends the address and data bus so future devices can be added
or developing products can be tested.
Local
Area Network (LAN):
Allows access to a network environment and supports NE2000. It meets
CF I/F standards and the Ethernet driver is included.
Universal
Serial Bus (USB): Three USB ports are built into the board: USB
2.0/IDE (client), USB 1.1 (client), and USB 1.1 (host). The maximum
transfer speed is 480Mbits/s. ActiveSync uses the USB to synchronize
with a desktop PC, which allows for transferring data and programs
to the development board.
IrDA
port: Transfer data via infrared at a speed of 115.2Kb/s. It is
a common way to exchange data with other PDA's or desktop PC, and
convenient because it is wireless. ActiveSync supports IrDA.
Serial
comm port: The most wildly used protocol for communicating with
other devices. This can be used for Modems, Keyboards, Mouse, or printers.
VGA
port: Allows for dual display.
Stereo
Headphone Jack: Standard Jack used for head phones. PC speakers
are also supported.
JTAG
port: Used to download programs to system FLASH memory and for
JTAG debuggers. A Cable is included that connects a desktop PC serial
port. Software is also provided.
Audio
Features:
- Integrated
AC '97 Rev. 2.1 interface

Solution
Sets
The
power of the Sandgate 2G reference design is unleashed in combination
with the complete debugging solutions available by Sophia Systems. From
compilers and debuggers to JTAGs and Full In-Circuit Emulators (ICE).
The solution sets provide all the tools needed to get your project developed,
debugged and products out the door faster. For
debugging code, there is a JTAG port and the combination of Sandgate
2G board and Sophia's EJ-Debug JTAG emulator for PXA270 provides on-chip
debugging capability.
